Klia Transport App Furore Is This A Case Of Barking Up The Wrong Tree

RECENTLY, a letter with the heading “KLIA’s transport app fumbles first impression” was published in an English daily. It was very well written and the contents are of the highest quality. Unfortunately, it was critically flawed.
The writer had used Gohub, a new transport app, several times upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to book a ride home.
However, he encountered problems each time, leading him to list down and explain the app’s shortcomings, and the actions needed to address them with urgency.
He pointed out that KLIA is the front door to our country, which he described as creaky, confusing, and poorly staffed.
He called on the Transport Ministry (MOT) and KLIA leadership to act now, not only to restore functionality, but also to restore faith. He convincingly concluded that Malaysia deserves better, and so do its visitors.
However, I found that he was barking up the wrong tree as the app is a private initiative. Go Hub Capital Berhad is a Malaysian-owned IT solutions provider listed on the ACE Market, and specialising in transport systems for bus, rail, and terminal management.
Moreover, few passengers use the Gohub app, as most could purchase coupons at the official taxi counters, opt for metered taxis, use one of the many established e-hailing apps such as Grab, take a bus, or catch a train such as KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit.
Nevertheless, I could be wrong and may have misread the letter, or be ignorant and unaware of other facts and information. If so, I stand corrected.
But I will continue to voice my opinions honestly, as it is not fair to blame MOT or KLIA if they are not involved in developing or operating a private transport app.
