Klia Incident Sarawak Dap Leader Praises Tiong For Baring Fangs
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing has received rare praise from a Sarawak DAP leader, following the minister's decision to inspect a complaint at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
In a statement, Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling said he believed Tiong had no personal agenda in investigating a Chinese tourist’s complaint.
"Every minister, deputy minister, and top government servant must turun padang (go to the ground) frequently – even without prior notice – so that they can see the real situation.
"Don't plan an official visit where everything is well presented, then your visit will serve no purpose except for formality," said Ling, who is also Sarawak Pakatan Harapan secretary, according to Borneo Post.
Tiong (above) visited the Immigration Department at KLIA on Thursday upon receiving complaints from a Chinese national who was denied entry.
According to Tiong, the visitor's papers were in order and the tourist was a victim of corruption, which he wanted to expose.
The Chinese national was eventually allowed entry following the minister's intervention.
Be courteous
Ling urged immigration personnel to be courteous and professional when dealing with foreign visitors as they are usually the first Malaysians to greet them.
The senator also urged the Home Ministry to ensure there was no "hanky-panky" which could tarnish the country's image and that a standard operating procedure is in place to render proper service to visitors.
Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling"The Immigration Department should, in fact, take the revelation by the minister (Tiong) openly and conduct self-evaluation, as well as accept the concern from the public.
"They (immigration personnel) should take the cue to change for the better so that the Immigration Department can be a world-class government organisation that is well respected by everyone," Ling added. - Mkini
