Kit Siang Wants Probe Into Ge14 Results Of Zahid Hisham And Ismail
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang wants the Election Commission to hold an inquiry into its past actions on the alleged illegal transfer of military voters to four parliamentary seats and whether the results of these seats should be declared null and void
These are the seats held by former BN ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Hishammuddin Hussein (Sembrong), Dr S Subramaniam (Segamat), and Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera). Of the four, only Subramaniam lost his seat
Lim made the call following reports that a probe into the Defence Ministry found that EC officers were complicit in the transfer of military voters
"Such collusion of EC officials with the Defence Ministry to illegally and undemocratically shore up the support of cabinet ministers in the ensuing 14th general election was not only a flagrant abuse of power by the Najib (Abdul Razak) government but an impermissible abuse of the democratic process
"The more fortunate former ministers, Zahid, Hishammuddin and Ismail should (also) state whether they welcome an inquiry as to whether their election was unlawful, undemocratic and should, therefore, be declared null and void," Lim said in a statement today
Last week, EC chief Azhar Harun said they would wait to see the investigation report before deciding on the next course of action
According to The Malaysian Insight (TMI), the claims were part of a detailed report by a special investigation committee on procurement, governance and finance headed by former auditor-general Ambrin Buang
Meanwhile, Lim also wants Hishammuddin (photo) to explain his challenge to Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and his deputy, Liew Chin Tong, to prove that he (Hishammuddin) had personally benefited from any land swap deals
Hishammuddin had said this in reference to the Ambrin committee's finding that the government had lost more than RM500 million in dodgy land swap deals over two decades.Lim also wants the former defence minister to explain his remark that "if they live in glass houses, don't throw stones"
"As far as I am aware, both Mohamad and Liew have not made any allegation that Hishammuddin had personally benefited financially
"Hishammuddin should (also) explain what he meant by (his throw stones) remark, which does not appear to be a declaration of innocence and clearly a statement that his father, Hussein Onn, known for his uncompromising stand against corruption, would not have approved.," the Iskandar Puteri MP added. - Mkini
