Berita mengenai seekor gajah liar bunting yang mati akibat termakan buah nenas yang diisi dengan mercun pada 27 Mei lalu telah mencetuskan kemarahan ramai.
Malahan, Ketua Menteri Kerala juga turut menjanjikan tindakan tegas ke atas pesalah yang membunuh gajah tersebut.
“Jabatan kehutanan kini sedang menyiasat kes itu dan pelakunya dijamin tidak akan terlepas daripada perbuatannya ini,” kata Ketua Menteri Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan pada Rabu.
Selain daripada itu juga, sebanyak dua buah organisasi turut mengumumkan untuk memberikan ganjaran wang tunai kepada sesiapa sahaja yang dapat memberikan maklumat yang akan menyebabkan pelakunya ditangkap.
Terdahulu, gajah yang mati itu didakwa telah memakan buah nenas yang berisi dengan mercun pada 27 Mei lalu.
Kematian tragis gajah itu telah mendapat perhatian dan mencetuskan kemarahan ramai orang selepas salah seorang pegawai hutan bernama Mohan Krishnan memuat naik perkongsian berkenaan kisah gajah tersebut di laman Facebooknya.
“Maafkan saya kak,” tulis Krishnan selepas terpaksa menyaksikan detik-detik terakhir gajah itu.
Susulan daripada kejadian itu, orang ramai yang berang akan kematian tragik gajah itu telah menunjukkan tanda solidariti buat gajah tersebut.
