Kelantan Will Provide Rm1 5m Aid To Traders Hit By Ramadan Bazaar Cancellation

The Kelantan government will provide RM1.5 million aid to traders after it abruptly cancelled Ramadan bazaars in the state.
The state made the move as a precaution against the Covid-19 pandemic despite Putrajaya giving the green light for Ramadan bazaars to proceed.
Izani Husein (above), the state exco in charge of local government, housing and health, said the allocation is aimed at providing relief to traders.
"Good news for Ramadan bazaar traders: the RM1.5 million will be a consolation to those affected by the cancellation," he told a press conference in Kota Bharu today.
Izani said based on data from the local councils, there are some 2,500 registered traders.
He did not reveal how much each trader will get but the allocation for 2,500 recipients will translate to around RM600 each.
"The local councils have the list so we will call the traders based on the list," Izani said.
Last Sunday, the Kelantan government announced that it was cancelling Ramadan bazaars in the state, two days before the start of the fasting month.
Izani said the state government will refund payments that traders have made to secure their spot for the bazaars.
"I will have a meeting with the local councils after this. I will announce in the meeting (about the refund) and they will carry them out as soon as possible," he added.
Kelantan saw an increase of more than 100 new daily Covid-19 cases in three of the last seven days. Prior to that, the increase was in the double digits for most days. - Mkini
