Pas deputy spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the prime minister, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, should have made the move a long time ago or soon after PN became the ruling government.- NSTP/NIK ABDULLAH NIK OMAR.KOTA BARU: Pas has described Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's decision to place Malay-based political parties under one roof as a good move towards unity of the 'ummah' (community).
Pas deputy spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the prime minister, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, should have made the move a long time ago or soon after PN became the ruling government.
"All this time, Malay parties have been quarrelling with each other but after PN took over the government, I can see less fighting among the Malay-based parties.
"We should take this experience as a lesson and grab the opportunity to unite for the sake of the people," he said.
Ahmad said Muhyiddin's decision was there for the people to see, especially those who have been following the political development in the country.
It was reported recently that the top leadership in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Umno and Pas have agreed to strengthen the cooperation among the three parties to avoid the Malay unity agenda from becoming an elusive dream.
Muhyiddin via Bersatu's official Facebook page said it was time for all the Malay leaders to put aside their political differences and come together in the spirit of ukhuwah (brotherhood) and mahabbah (love) in addressing greater issues, which is the unity of the Malay community in the country.
He said there should be no split or clashes and that the three parties could not move in different directions.
Muhyiddin also admitted the tension brewing between Bersatu and Umno had placed both parties in difficult and challenging situation since both were previously political rivals. - NST
