Kedah Fa Ceo Three Others Freed From Macc Custody
Kedah Football Association CEO Zulkifli Che Haron and three others have been released from MACC custody today after their statements were recorded in an investigation involving RM6 million in kickbacks.
Online portal Free Malaysia Today reported that all four individuals were freed on bail at 10am today after about 72 hours under remand.
In a statement, KFA sought to clarify Zulkifli’s role, saying the CEO’s function is to streamline the association’s administration and its secretariat’s functions.
“The association denies being involved in any form of corruption.
“Since the association’s formation, its main source of income is through contributions from companies and corporate bodies.
“Every contribution of funds is recorded in its financial report and tabled (annually),” said KFA.
FMT also reported KFA defending Zulkifli, who was appointed to his role in August 2020, and since then has worked hard to resolve issues of salary arrears and debt owed to statutory bodies since the association’s administration changed hands.
All four individuals were detained over alleged connections to RM6 million in kickbacks linked to a tender to build a racetrack, and another project to operate and maintain five water reservoir plants in Kedah.
Yesterday, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also KFA president, claimed that the situation was an act of cruelty by certain quarters who abused government agencies for political intention and personal satisfaction.
Sanusi also described the claims as slander and pledged to uncover an alleged plot against the four individuals. - Mkini
