Kayveas Dropped Out Due To Myppp Dispute Claims Nazri
CAMERON POLLS | M Kayveas decided against contesting in the Cameron Highlands by-election because his status as MyPPP president has yet to be resolved by the Registrar of Societies, claims BN secretary-general Nazri Abdul Aziz
“I think he was not allowed to contest today under MyPPP because it is still under dispute and ROS has not decided,” he told Malaysiakini, adding that Kayveas is also unwilling to run as an independent
Nazri said he is also unsurprised by Kayveas’ move to support Pakatan Harapan, saying that it is the only other option as MyPPP has made its exit from BN
Kayveas had previously announced that he would contest in the Cameron Highlands by-election, the seat he had long lobbied for
However, this prompted stern warnings from Maglin Dennis D’Cruz, the leader of a rival MyPPP faction, who warned Kayveas against using the party logo in the polls
Both Kayveas and Maglin claim to be the rightful MyPPP president. Maglin states that Kayveas is no longer president since he had been sacked, while the latter claims to have the backing of the ROS
Although Kayveas turned up for the nomination this morning, he announced that he would back Harapan instead of contesting in the by-election himself.Welcoming MCA supportOn another matter, Nazri said he welcomes MCA’s mobilisation to support BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, despite having called for the dissolution of the coalition
He added that MCA’s efforts to dissolve BN would not bear fruit, because BN operates by consensus and Umno would not agree to the dissolution
“As the secretary-general of BN, I can tell you even though the meeting has not been called, of course we in Umno will not agree to that
“When Umno does not agree, of course it’s not going to happen," he said
In the meantime, Nazri said, MCA can play its role by rallying the support of the Chinese community behind Ramli
“Whatever they can help with, we are very grateful and happy."'Candidate carrying the party'As for Ramli, Nazri said he is a good choice for a BN candidate
“The Umno deputy president (Mohamad Hasan) has said that this time around it’s not the party that will carry the candidate. Pretty obvious, isn’t it? Nobody likes BN now
“So, it is the candidate that will carry the party. “He’s a local boy and I have asked around whether they know him, and yes, they all know him,” he said, speaking at Ramli’s home village at Kampung Mensun
He was speaking to Malaysiakini prior to an event where Ramli is expected to meet local villagers together with Mohamad
