Just Do It Anwar Tells Hamzah On No Confidence Vote
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is egging on his rival, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, to go ahead and table a motion of no confidence in the Dewan Rakyat.
He indicated he has been waiting for such a challenge for three years.
"There's a suggestion by Hamzah to table a vote of no confidence.
"Go ahead. We are open. This is the right process. If he wants to do it, please do. He has been saying he wants to do it for three years," Berita Harian quoted Anwar as saying today.
Yesterday, Hamzah gave coy hints when the Malay daily asked him about a confidence vote.
"Wait. We will do it later. Why would we reveal it (when we want to table)?" he said after the conclusion of the “Turun Anwar” rally in Kuala Lumpur.

The “Turun Anwar” rally saw at least 25,000 people gather at Dataran Merdeka to demand that the prime minister resign.
Anwar has said that if the opposition wants him to resign, they should do so through a vote of confidence in Parliament.
He indicated that he would allow such a motion to come first before other government business in the august house.
Anwar holds a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat as proven by a bloc vote in March when the government passed a constitutional amendment to grant Parliament more independence.
It is thus unlikely that the opposition can oust him in Parliament.
Previously, in December 2022, a confidence vote to prove his legitimacy as prime minister passed with just a voice vote, as the opposition declined to call for a bloc vote where each MP’s ballot is tallied.
ADSSupport for Anwar
Despite guaranteed success in such a vote, Anwar's support among Pakatan Harapan voters has taken a hit over the past month, starting with backlash against initial plans to impose a sales tax on all imported fruits - followed by an uproar over concerns of alleged judicial interference.
Anwar has denied the judicial interference claims and walked back planned taxes on imported apples, oranges, mandarin oranges, and dates.
On Wednesday, he also announced a slew of goodies for the public, including RM100 in grocery aid for adults, as well as plans to lower RON95 prices for Malaysians by six sen to RM1.99 per litre.

Speaking to the press today, Anwar said the government was not perfect but is willing to improve.
"I’m not saying what we’ve done is perfect, but we constantly listen and make adjustments where needed,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
He also said that any criticism against the government must be based on facts.
"This is a free and democratic country, but we must provide clarification. During interviews (at the gathering in Dataran Merdeka), some claimed fuel prices had gone up when in fact they had gone down. There are many (such false claims).
“This reflects political sentiment and hatred, not facts. Therefore, we suggest that people make judgments based on facts. If there are shortcomings, we are open to improvement,” he said. - Mkini
