June 16 Verdict On Bid To Quash Misadventure Ruling In Nora Anne S Death
The family of Nora Anne Quoirin will know on Wednesday next week the outcome of their bid to overturn the Coroner Court’s ruling that the Irish-French teenager’s death two years ago was due to misadventure.
The High Court in Seremban today fixed the date for decision on the family’s revision application against the coroner’s ruling issued on Jan 4.
When contacted, lawyer Alliff Benjamin Suhaimi confirmed that judge Azizul Azmi Adnan set the decision for 5pm on June 16, following this afternoon’s submissions from legal teams acting for the parties in the matter.
The lawyer was holding a watching brief for Seremban-based resort The Dusun during the online proceedings conducted via Zoom, which saw submissions by the family’s counsel Louise Azmi and members of the prosecution.
Among the deputy public prosecutors who appeared for the prosecution today was Ahmad Sazali Omar.
Nora Anne (above) and her family had checked into the resort on Aug 3, 2019. The 15-year-old teenager went missing the next day.
Following a massive search, her body was discovered near a creek in a ravine, located about 2.5km from the resort where she and her family stayed, on Aug 13, 2019.
A preliminary post-mortem report stated that the death of the disabled teenager had no criminal element, adding that she died from gastrointestinal bleeding due to prolonged hunger and stress.
A total of 47 witnesses, including the teenager's parents, Meabh Jaseprine and Sebastien Quoirin, gave testimony during the inquest proceedings before Seremban Coroner Maimoonah Aid, which began on Aug 24, last year.
Following the Coroner Court’s ruling of misadventure, Louise told Malaysiakini on Jan 20 that the family will file the revision application.
The deceased’s family filed the revision application on Feb 5. - Mkini
