Judiciary Denies Collusion In Najib Zahid Cases
The Federal Court Chief Registrar’s Office has denied allegations that Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat had colluded with politicians to expedite court proceedings against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his predecessor Najib Abdul Razak.
In a statement issued today, the office said a police report has been lodged to deny the allegations of conspiracy and collusion.
“The chief justice has never communicated with or has been contacted by any political leader linked to the cases involving Najib and Ahmad Zahid.
“Ongoing cases in court shall proceed in accordance with the law without any intervention by the chief justice or any other person,” the statement read.
The office claimed that those responsible for making and disseminating such allegations were trying to tarnish the image of the court and cause the public to lose faith in the judiciary.
“These allegations are intended to subvert the administration of justice in the pending trial cases against Najib and Ahmad Zahid,” it said.
The purported conspiracy was part of a "leaked document" that summarised meetings between PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and another party leader with the other political figures between March 24 and April 7.
According to the document, a politician told the PAS leaders that “the attorney-general and chief justice have agreed to expedite the case and sentencing” of Zahid’s and Najib’s court proceedings.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Attorney-General’s Chambers for comment and is awaiting a response, as well as other individuals named in the document.
Yesterday, Umno veteran Shahrir Samad voiced concern over the purportedly leaked document.
"If the allegations (in the document) are true, then it shows that the judiciary system has broken," he had said.
The document was reportedly spreading among political circles for days, but gained prominence when it was published by a website known as Malaysia Hot.
Samsuri had admitted to meeting some of the people named in the conspiracy, but said the document itself was rubbish and had spelt his name wrong. - Mkini
