(Bernama pic)KAJANG: The road transport department (JPJ) has warned the public of seven major traffic offences which are non-compoundable in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
Deputy transport minister Hasbi Habibollah said these seven offences were: queue cutting, overtaking on a double line, disobeying a red traffic light, driving over the speed limit, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, and abuse of emergency lanes.
He said there was also a ban on goods-carrying vehicles using the roads for two days before Aidilfitri (April 20 and 21), and two days after the festival (April 24 and 25).
This is aimed at reducing the risk of accidents and also to avoid traffic congestion.
Hasbi said this at a press conference after a road safety programme held in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration at the Taman Prima Saujana Ramadan food stall here today.

He said 2,000 JPJ enforcement personnel will be involved in integrated traffic operations, codenamed Ops Bersepadu, from today until April 27 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
They will focus on 76 black spot locations on federal roads, which are among the areas with the highest accident rate.
Hasbi added both covert and overt strategies, including the use of drones at certain locations, will be utilised to monitor errant motorists.
JPJ also conducted operations, under its Pra-Ops Hari Raya, from April 14 until yesterday. This involved checking buses at 76 depots and 28 main bus terminals nationwide to ensure buses are roadworthy.

JPJ director-general Zailani Hashim said an extra 500 personnel may be deployed under Ops Bersepadu if the need arose. - FMT
