Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had called on civil servants to be patient over the lack of salary increases in the national budget. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked the public services department (JPA) to hold a dialogue with Cuepacs regarding the wages of civil servants, Bernama reported.
Cuepacs had previously urged the government to raise the wages of civil servants as their salaries did not reflect the high cost of living.
Cuepacs president Adnan Mat said he was informed of the matter during a courtesy call on the newly appointed director-general of public service (KPPA) Zulkapli Mohamed, today.
Adnan said he was told that the prime minister was committed to ensuring that civil servants had a comfortable disposable income.
“The prime minister’s pledge to relook the public service remuneration system when the country’s finances improve has indeed given hope to about 1.6 million civil servants,” he said.
At the same time, Adnan said Cuepacs called on all civil servants to be patient while the government looked for a solution.
He said Cuepacs remained confident that the leadership combination of Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Zuki Ali and Zulkapli would continue to bring the voices and aspirations of the civil servants to the attention of the government.
“Cuepacs hopes that KSN and KPPA will continue negotiating with the government to find the best solutions in view of the rising cost of living,” he added.
Civil servants wages have not been revised since November 2002. - FMT
