Johor Sultan Has No Power To Order Exco Revamp State Pkr Chief
Johor PKR chief Hassan Karim (photo above) today said that state ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has no power to order a revamp of the state executive council line-up following the resignation of menteri besar Osman Sapian
Instead, the Pasir Gudang MP told Malaysiakini today that the power to restructure the state executive council lies with the Johor state legislative assembly and the winning parties
"The Johor state executive councillors are accountable to the state assembly. This means the state assembly is the responsibility of the (Pakatan) Harapan majority parties
"So the Sultan has no power to revamp the exco line-up, the winning parties have the power," said Hassan
Earlier this morning, Osman said Sultan Ibrahim did not read his resignation letter presented during an audience at Istana Pasir Pelangi
The Kempas assemblyperson also said the Johor ruler had set a condition for his successor, which is to revamp the current state executive council line-up, and called for a second audience at 6.30pm today
Hassan said while the names of the exco members would be presented to the Sultan, the final line-up will be decided by the menteri besar
"The Sultan has no power to order a revamp because the excos will be appointed by the menteri besar
"Just the menteri besar, no need others," he stressed
Asked whether Johor PKR would consider making any changes to its representatives in the exco line-up, Hassan said both Semerah assemblyperson Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar and Bukit Batu assemblyperson Jimmy Puah Wee Tse would be retained in their positions
"We will maintain the status quo in the state government... the same people," he said
At the state Harapan level, Hassan said PKR no longer recognised Osman as Johor Harapan chief, following his resignation
He pointed out that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was initially appointed as Johor Harapan chief, but Osman eventually took up an acting position due to the Bukit Gambir's assemblyperson's poor health last year
"Now that he (Osman) has resigned, we (PKR) view Muhyiddin as the Johor Harapan chief, and Bersatu must make a new appointment
"We will wait for Muhyiddin to call for a meeting. PKR's view is that Osman can no longer call for a state Harapan meeting," he added
Osman submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday. - Mkini
