PETALING JAYA: The daycare centre at Kangkar Pulai in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, where a five-month-old baby boy reportedly died on Wednesday, was unregistered, says a state executive councillor.
Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail said the state social welfare department had conducted an investigation into the case.
She said the baby had been cared for by the female babysitter involved since he was three months old.
“The babysitter had attended a Permata basic childcare course (conducted by the social welfare department) in 2016. She has provided childcare services from home since 2022.
“However, she did not notify the social welfare department of childcare services at the home and had never registered the premises under Section 7 of the Child Care Centre Act 1984,” Kosmo reported her as saying.
Khairin-Nisa said a notice of sealing had been issued to the premises under Section 20A of the Act to stop its childcare operations.
Yesterday, Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumaresan said the baby was found unconscious by the babysitter, who is in her 30s.
He said the child was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital where he was confirmed dead. An autopsy found no signs of injuries on the body.
The child’s mother, 31, lodged a report at 4.24pm on Wednesday.
Kumaresan said no arrests have been made yet and the case has been classified as sudden death, with the cause of death still under investigation. - FMT
