Johor Cops Investigating 25 Year Old For Allegedly Insulting Johor Royal Family

JOHOR BARU: The police have opened an investigation into a 25-year-old man after he allegedly posted an insulting remark on social media targeting a member of the Johor Royal family.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that the police have received four police reports against the man related to his posts on social media.
"We have identified the man who posted the statement on social media. He is a 25-year-old from Batu Pahat.
"We have also opened an investigation paper under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace," he said in a press conference here on Saturday (Feb 6).
Comm Ayob said the case would also be investigated under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said this in a response to questions from the press about a police report that had previously been made against the man.
It is learnt that the man had posted the statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday (Feb 3), where he expressed his dissatisfaction against a certain person for showing off his lavish lifestyle at a time when the people are struggling with the pandemic.
However, the post has since been removed.
Comm Ayob also reminded the public not to use social media to spread such remarks and that the police would not hesitate to take actions.
"I would like to remind all Malaysians not to take to social media to air such remarks. We would not let go of such cases and would investigate," he said.
He noted that the state police have opened seven investigation papers related to similar insults last year where one of the suspects had been charged in court. - Star
