Jana Wibawa Muhyiddin Halts Federal Court Appeal

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has filed a notice to discontinue the appeal for his Jana Wibawa case at the Federal Court, two days after applying for a review at the Court of Appeal.
The notice was filed through the law firm of Chetan Jethwani, according to the document sighted by Malaysiakini.
The former prime minister was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last year for four counts of abuse of power and three counts of money laundering concerning the Jana Wibawa programme.
He is accused of using his position as then prime minister and Bersatu president for an inducement of RM232.5 million from three companies and an individual, between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021.
On Aug 15 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court struck out the abuse of power charges on grounds that they were defective and not in line with the Criminal Procedure Code, but the Court of Appeal reinstated them last month saying the charges were “clear and unambiguous”.
Muhyiddin then sought to reverse the decision at the Federal Court by filing for an appeal, but prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin pointed out that the law only allows the case to go up to the Court of Appeal because it originated in the Sessions Court.
Muhyiddin then filed an application for the Court of Appeal to review its own decision, before today’s notice to halt the Federal Court appeal. - Mkini
