It S Official Convent Bukit Nanas Has 60 Year Land Lease Extension
The Convent Bukit Nanas has been granted a 60-year extension on its land lease.KUALA LUMPUR: The government has issued an official land lease extension for the iconic SMK Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) for 60 years.
In a letter dated May 31, Federal Territories land and mines office director Muhammad Yasir Yahya said the land office committee agreed to a 60- year extension to the Lady Superior of the Society of Saint Maur.
The Society of Saint Maur operates CBN, which is one of the oldest in the country and one of the last few remaining all-girls schools in Kuala Lumpur.
“CBN also needs to settle a fee of RM2,070 for extension purposes, within three months from this date (May 31),” Yasir said.
He added the land could only be used for educational purposes and cannot be transferred to other parties without the FT land office’s consent.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a media statement on April 22 that CBN’s land lease has been extended for another 60 years, “specifically for educational purposes only”.
The PMO also said chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali and Yasir met with Theresa Chua, the Lady Superior of the Society of Saint Maur, and the parties agreed to the solution.
The extension announcement came after the school won its bid to proceed with the legal challenge in questioning the government’s earlier refusal to renew the land lease, scheduled to expire on Sept 6. - FMT
