Ismail Sabri S Innocence Hanging By A Thread As He Evades Date With Graft Buster For A 2nd Time

DOUBTS abound over the innocence of ninth premier Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob after he extends his sick leave for a second time, thus postponing a quizzing session with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today (March 7) over a corruption and money laundering case.
Coincidence or otherwise, this came about after his own party – UMNO – turned its back on him by distancing itself from the recent MACC’s RM177 mil ‘heist’ at the residence of one of his ex-aides.
With the graft burster’s head honcho Tan Sri Azam Baki having named the Bera MP as one of the key suspects in an on-going graft probe involving hundreds of millions of ringgit in government funds, it now seems all too convenient to corner him into a guilt admission.
Instead of praying for his speedy recovery, it is little wonder that pro-Madani backers are having a field day poking fun at the former UMNO vice-president whom the party’s communications director Datuk Lokman Adam described as being “PN (Perikatan Nasional)-slant” during his 14-month premiership stint.
Nevertheless, some Friday humours can be found by browsing through this Berita Harian post in X duly entitled “Ismail Sabri Extending His MC (medical chit); MACC Expected to Record His Statement Next Week”.
The joke of the day which stings in sarcasm came from justice fighter Suraya Aziz (@SurayaAOfficial) who wants to know which doctor approved the MC “so next time easy (for her) to request for MC”.

Editor’s Note: Lo and behold, the mainstream New Straits Times has learnt that the MACC will be speaking to Ismail Sabri’s doctor today (March 7) to get a clearer picture of Ismail Sabri’s health condition and to ensure he is really fit to give his statement on March 13.
Another commenter deflected the joke onto cartoonist/satirist Fahmi Reza for “not deriving any inspiration” from this latest development.

Editor’s Note: Irony or otherwise, many detractors found Fahmi’s latest cartoon on Ismail Sabri sleeping soundly on four piles of gold bullions to be “too mild” by his standards.
One commenter cheekily wondered if “mosques need to hold solat hajat (prayer of need) to seek divine intervention to facilitate his recovery”.

Another hinted at the prospect of more excuses in the pipeline, notably “to celebrate Hari Raya and performing the haj which will be followed by Awal Muharam”.

On a more serious, one commenter nailed what is going through most Malaysians’ mind which is “why worried about confronting the MACC if one is innocent”. – March 7, 2025
