Ismail Sabri Health Ministry Will Decide On Interstate Travel For Hari Raya After Making Risk Assessment
PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry will decide whether or not to allow interstate travel during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"All decisions to allow interstate travel are based on the risk assessment conducted by the Health Ministry. If they think it is unsuitable due to high risk, we will not allow it," he said.
The Senior Minister (Security) reminded the public not to be too comfortable with the current situation as the number of Covid-19 cases remains high.
"We now have over 1,000 daily. During our first lockdown, it was about 300 cases daily.
"We are easing restrictions a bit to help resuscitate our economy. Whatever it is, we shall wait for the Health Ministry's decision," he told a press conference at an event here on Friday (April 9).
He also added that stern action will be taken against those who try to cross state borders with fake "pre-approved" police travel permits during the upcoming festive season.
"If you purchase (permits) outside with police approval, that is wrong. The police never issue anything like that," he said.
Ismail Sabri added that those who want to travel interstate need to apply at the nearest police station, and warned that action will also be taken against anyone found to be selling fake travel documents.
“How can they give a blank approval without going through the proper screening process? The authorities need to know the reason why an individual wants to travel interstate," he said. - Star
