Insulting Fb Post On Agong President Xi From Hacked Acct Leads To Massive Racist Tirades But

THIS was just waiting to happen.
In fact, it looks very much a calculated attempt to cause further racial/religious disharmony by leveraging the state visit of Chinese president Xi Jinping to stir up mischief.
As per a post on the Facebook (FB) page of Oriental Daily (a Chinese language news portal), reader Cayson Goh had apparently made some disparaging remarks on His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia who was looking down as Xi was signing the Istana Negara’s Visitors Book.
It was insinuated that Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) “is as if a subservient canine looking at its master”.
Needless to say, this has sparked an almighty furore with no less a personage than UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh calling for blood.
Sharing the “news” on his FB page, it elicited plenty of racist comments and other unpleasant remarks. The anti-DAP brigade, in particular, was out in full force.
The Merlimau state assemblyman had gone on to state on his post not to accept any pleas of insanity or that the social media account had been hacked.
The message was clear – the DAP – and the Chinese by extension had become too arrogant now that it was in power.

This is till other component parties – even UMNO president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi and its secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki – are unable to act for fear of the power yielded by DAP, surmised one netizen.

Tirade backfire
Lo and behold, the real Cayson Goh has since stepped forward to refute that he had made such callous and insulting statements while claiming that he has been a victim of identity theft.
As a proud Johorean, he contended that he would not dream of insulting Sultan Ibrahim who is also the ruler of Johor. He has lodged a police report on the matter.

Now, think about this for a minute.
Would any sane citizen of this fair land do something as incredibly stupid as insulting the monarch using their own social media account?
Everyone knows the penalty for that.
There are few realities highlighted by this latest episode.
Firstly, Akmal and his cohorts are insinuating that ego-driven Chinese chauvinists are well capable of such actions.
Ego-driven they may be, stupid they are not. It is like posting a video of one committing a serious crime with no face mask on one’s own social media account. It is plain inconceivable and incomprehensible that anyone could be that brainless.
Secondly, identity theft is real. Social media accounts are ripe to be exploited for all sorts of nefarious activities and people need to be vigilant.
Thirdly, the visit of the Chinese leader was always going to present opportunities for local rabble rousers to spin 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues. That this has happened is really no surprise to anyone.
Emotions will run high as spin doctors use Xi’s visit to postulate everything from Malay sovereignty being threatened to local Chinese being chauvinists.
In the meantime, real issues such as economic growth will be sidelined.
