Instead Of Being A Uniting Force Global Sumud Fotilla Has Ripped Apart Dapsy Umno Youth S Cordiality

IMAGINE how a global humanitarian mission can conveniently transform into a seemingly ferocious confrontation of almost no return between two supposedly Madani government allies – UMNO Youth and the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY).
One would imagine that post the upside down Jalur Gemilang spate of controversies, it would be back to business as usual for both youth wings instead of kept being at loggerheads with each other ever since the KK Super Mart Allah inscription on socks furore in March-April 2024 when they first traded barbs.
Instead of channelling their youthful energy to mend ties, avenues to exchange friendly fires tend to surface for the duo – the latest being the incidence of Israeli detention of the Global Sumud Fotilla (GSF) activists and volunteers which include 34 Malaysians, seven of whom are women.
It all started when national DAPSY chief Woo Kah Leong chided his rightist UMNO Youth counterpart Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh for ‘blackmailing’ Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to cancel the visit of US president Donald Trump to Malaysia lest the movement “shall protest en masse in front of Trump”.


Then speaking in his capacity as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth head, the Pasir Bedamar (Perak) state assemblyman countered that PMX had done everything possible within his capacity to seek the immediate release of all GSF activists/volunteers, including the Malaysians on board GSF.
On that note, Woo was deemed to have stepped on the tail of the staunch race and religion defender when he insinuated that “as youths, let’s not complicate the situation, add to the problems, act like heroes or to bring more discomfort to the victims’ family members”.
“If you are unable to help, pray that all prisoners, especially Malaysian citizens, remain safe,” he contended in a statement.

But Akmal took offence of Woo’s so-called advice by remarking “once a fool, always a fool” with the UMNO Youth secretary Hafiz Ariffin accusing Woo of not being able to comprehend the sensitivity of the issue.

Turning the table on Woo, Hafiz who is also the special officer to Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein claimed that the former’s statement “seems to have an implicit meaning” in that he (Woo) disagrees with the need for protests against Trump and Israel’s actions.
Apart from asking Woo point blank if he is part of “Brigade 8200” (Israeli Intelligence Corps unit), Hafiz also called on PH Youth to advise its head “who is desperately trying to play hero with the sole modus operandi of refuting any of Akmal’s suggestions and recommendations”.
Alas, this has sparked war of words with DAPSY retaliating that UMNO Youth “only wants to act like heroes and samseng (thugs) with no intention of assisting PMX’s administration in rescuing Malaysian volunteers in the GSF mission”.

It is as good as anyone’s guess whether leaders of both youth wings lack political maturity or merely hitching a free ride from the GSF trauma for political mileage:

DAPSY would like to emphasise that the personal attacks, thuggish language and hate politics shown by Akmal Saleh aren’t helping anyone and only highlight Akmal’s immaturity and narrow-mindedness.
