Infighting Virus Can Destroy Amanah If Not Checked Says Khalid
Amanah communications director Khalid Samad agrees with party president Mohamad Sabu that the infighting in the party must be stopped.
PETALING JAYA: Amanah has described the party’s internal strife as a “virus” that needs to be eradicated before it gets out of control.
The party’s communications director Khalid Samad said although infighting was normal in political parties, it should not be taken lightly.
“What is happening now in Amanah is normal for any political party, but this does not mean we can just ignore it.
“It is important for the grassroots members to join the leadership to help eradicate the virus before it destroys the party,” Khalid told FMT.
The Shah Alam MP said Amanah president Mohamad Sabu’s statement that the party was in “a messy situation”, should be taken seriously by the grassroots.
“There is no problem with that statement. His direct approach is aimed at making members realise that it is a problem that needs to be addressed,” said Khalid.
At the Amanah annual convention yesterday, Mohamad acknowledged that the party was affeced by internal unrest following last year’s party elections.
The Pakatan Harapan coalition partner was rattled when a few of its assemblymen left to join other parties.
Last September, Amanah vice-president Husam Musa resigned from his post, citing the party’s internal turmoil.
Some analysts have said Amanah was divided into leaders who want Anwar Ibrahim to continue leading the opposition while others are more inclined to work with Dr Mahathir Mohamad again in an effort to capture Putrajaya.
