Infections Now More Widespread In The Community Says Sabah Minister
A high percentage of new cases are symptomatic cases, says state minister Masidi ManjunKOTA KINABALU: Covid-19 virus infections are becoming more widespread in the community in Sabah, state minister for local government and housing Masidi Manjun said today after 59% or 591 of the 1,002 new cases today were found from close contact screening.
He said the assumption was further strengthened by the high percentage of 18.4% (184 new cases) being among the symptomatic category.
“Infections in this category are sporadic cases, the cause of infection is unknown and cases involving clusters are only 13.3% (133 cases) while screening targets 5.5% (55 cases) of the total number of new cases,” he said when contacted today.
Masidi said Kota Kinabalu and Tawau each recorded 171 new cases followed by Penampang with 100 cases, Sipitang (90), Sandakan (75), Tuaran (73), Keningau (47), Telupid (40), Ranau ( 34), Papar (30), Beaufort (28) and Kinabatangan (22).
Masidi Manjun.Other districts that recorded new cases were Putatan and Kota Marudu (17), Kudat (16), Kota Belud (15), Lahad Datu (10), Kuala Penyu (9), Kunak, Beluran and Tenom. seven cases each, Kalabakan (5), Tongod (4), Semporna (3), Tambunan (2) while Nabawan and Pitas each recorded one case.
He said seven more new deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded in Sabah, two in Penampang and one case each in Beluran, Papar, Semporna, Kinabatangan and Kota Kinabalu.
” Two more new clusters were recorded, namely the Tembidong Bidong cluster involving the Telupid and Beluran districts and the Jalan Patikang Ulu cluster in Keningau.
“The Tembidong Bidong cluster is an infection in the community that is suspected to be caused by visiting activities among neighbours during the Aidiladha celebration while the Patikang Ulu cluster is categorised as a workplace cluster,” he said. - FMT
