Indoor Ventilation Guide Expected This Week
The government is expected to issue its long-awaited indoor ventilation guidelines this week, said the prime minister’s special advisor on public health Dr Jemilah Mahmood.
She has repeatedly urged the National Security Council (NSC) for one since last month.
Asked about this today, Jemilah (above) said the upcoming document will include guidelines for different indoor spaces.
“The indoor ventilation guideline has been raised in the NSC meeting. I believe it will be released this week.
“There has been a very good collaboration with the National Science Academy, Health Ministry, and the Human Resources Ministry.
“We have got to make guidelines for different situations (like) workplaces, homes, hospitals, quarantine centres, and vaccine administration centres,” she said during a doorstep interview with the media in Lembah Jaya, Ampang.
She had earlier participated in an onsite vaccine administration programme for an elderly bedridden woman at her home.
Much of the current surge of Covid-19 cases can be attributed to workplace infections.
Of the 13 new clusters announced yesterday (July 5), 11 were workplace clusters.
On March 1, the World Health Organisation (WHO) released a detailed guideline on indoor ventilation to reduce Covid-19 transmission.
“Understanding and controlling building ventilation can improve the quality of the air we breathe and reduce the risk of indoor health concerns including preventing the virus that causes Covid-19 from spreading indoors,” it said.
In non-residential settings, it includes using a stand-alone air cleaner with Hepa filters and stand fans, installing air extractors, and opening windows when possible, WHO’s guideline read.
On May 25, the Singapore government released its guideline for ventilation in enclosed spaces including shopping malls, offices, eateries, retail shops, markets, and workers’ dormitories. - Mkini
