PETALING JAYA: Sarawak governor Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar called for Bumiputeras to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese community and leverage each other’s experience and expertise in various fields, including the economy.
In his Chinese New Year message, Wan Junaidi said such collaboration would lead to an exchange of knowledge and skills which could enhance the Bumiputera community’s potential and competitiveness.
Such cooperation would also contribute to a more inclusive and progressive co-development as well as strengthen ties with the Chinese community, he said, The Borneo Post reported.
Wan Junaidi added that the efforts to encourage the Chinese community to participate in cross-racial integration must be translated through “concrete and effective actions”.
“Such efforts should not remain a discourse at the theoretical level.
“I am confident that by prioritising the principles of meritocracy and unity, we can realise holistic, equitable and inclusive development of the state,” he was quoted as saying.
“This would ensure the long-term prosperity and well-being of the people, as well as build a harmonious, progressive and competitive society.”
Wan Junaidi also called for Chinese and Bumiputera children in the state to master English, as well as the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
“This step is crucial to ensure that Sarawak’s children are ready to meet the needs of the future, especially in strategic sectors that are increasingly driven by technological advancements.” - FMT
