Impact Of Zahid S Case Will Be Known In Today S By Election Says Minister
JOHOR BY-ELECTIONS | The outcome of the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jerai state assembly by-elections will provide a clearer picture of the impact of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's case said Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang.
Zahid was released with a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from 47 charges of corruption, breach of trust, and money laundering in his Yayasan Akalbudi case.
“The effect of Zahid's case, today we will know.
“The results of the by-elections in Pulai and Simpang Jeram will give a clearer picture,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of InnoEx 2023 in Cyberjaya today.
Chang, also Tanjung Malim MP, was asked to comment on the effect of the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to allow the DNAA requested by the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Zahid’s corruption case on Sept 4.
The DNAA leaves the possibility that Zahid could be charged again if the prosecutor wants to review the matter.
The opposition and several political analysts believe the result will impact Pakatan Harapan's chances of victory in the twin by-elections today.
Too early
Meanwhile, Chang, also PKR vice-president, said it is too early to judge the unity government on its reform agenda.
“This government is still young. So, some things have not been implemented (as promised in the reforms).
“So, give it time first. After the end of the term, you can judge.
“I think it is too early to claim that the reform agenda is dead,” he said.
Former Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin said Zahid’s DNAA showed that the reformasi movement - started by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when he was fired from Umno in 1998 - was dead. - Mkini
