Immigration Dg Four Escaped Undocumented Migrants Caught
Four out of 131 undocumented migrants who escaped from the Bidor Immigration Detention Depot in Perak last night have been caught.
Immigration director-general Ruslin Jusoh said the four were caught around 4pm today and have been sent to the depot for verification.
In the 9.50pm incident yesterday, the undocumented migrants escaped from the men’s block of the depot.
One escapee was believed to have been involved in a car accident. He died at the scene at KM335 along the North-South Expressway.
Tapah district police chief Mohd Naim Asnawi said from the 131 escapees, 115 are Rohingya, 15 are from Myanmar, and one is from Bangladesh.
Following the escape, the Bidor Immigration Detention Depot has been closed temporarily.
Meanwhile, Ruslin said the remaining 453 detainees at the depot were transferred earlier today to depots in Machap, Malacca; Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan; Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur; Kemayan, Pahang; and Langkap, Perak.
On the arrest of the escapees, Ruslin said the department has yet to receive the full details, except that the four are Rohingya and were caught in Bidor.
He added that the undocumented migrant who was killed in the accident was a 33-year-old Rohingya man who had been in the depot since 2021.
Separately, when asked about a report by Radio Free Asia on the three Chinese nationals who were sent to Malaysia by the Taiwan government, Ruslin said he would check the matter.
Yesterday, RFA reported the trio who were seeking political refuge in Taiwan, declined to board a flight to Beijing. - Mkini
