PETALING JAYA: Satok assemblyman Ibrahim Baki has secured the highest number of votes in elections for the post of vice-president of the Bumiputera wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) in party elections held last night.
Sarawak tourism, creative industry and performing arts minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah failed to defend his position.
Karim garnered 669 votes, placing him fifth out of the six candidates vying for the four vice-president posts.
The official results were announced by the party’s elections chairman Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah at its 16th general assembly this morning, Bernama reported.
Ibrahim secured the highest votes at 910, followed by state utility and telecommunication minister Julaihi Narawi, who defended his position with 900 votes.
Sarawak deputy education, innovation and talent development minister Dr Annuar Rapaee also retained his vice-presidency by securing 788 votes.
The fourth successful candidate was another new contender, Len Talif Salleh. The Sarawak deputy urban planning, land administration and environment minister secured his position with 687 votes.
State deputy utility and telecommunication minister Abdul Rahman Junaidi also failed to defend his position, receiving only 546 votes.
TVS, a Sarawak television network, reported that federal works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi was reelected as the party’s secretary-general.
PBB is divided into two wings — the Bumiputera wing, which consists of the Malay/Melanau community, and the Pesaka wing, comprising the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu communities.
Over 4,000 delegates attended the three-day general assembly that started on Friday. - FMT
