I Tested Negative For Covid 19 Says Deputy Minister After Aide Dies
Guan Dee Koh Hoi says he last met his aide Jaimin Samitah on July 29 when Parliament was suspended and all MPs and staff were required to undergo Covid-19 swab tests.KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, culture and arts deputy minister Guan Dee Koh Hoi said he tested negative for Covid-19, after one of his aides succumbed to the virus yesterday.
Guan Dee, who is Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) secretary-general, said he had taken two RT-PCR tests, the second this morning, after his special functions officer Jaimin Samitah died yesterday evening.
He said he had been close with Jaimin, who hailed from Ranau, and that Jaimin was a dedicated officer who started working for him after he was appointed a deputy minister.
“I am very saddened by the sudden news. I have conveyed my sincere condolences to the family,” he said, when contacted today.
Guan Dee recalled that he last saw Jaimin on July 29 when Parliament was suspended and all MPs and staff were required to undergo Covid-19 swab tests.
“We both tested negative that day. I went back to Sabah the following Monday and he stayed back. We didn’t meet after that. And then he called, informing me that he had been admitted to hospital and that he could not return to Sabah. But unfortunately the bad news came yesterday,” he said.
Guan Dee said Jaimin’s brother told him that he was buried in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said Jaimin was formerly Ranau Umno division deputy chief before joining STAR in 2018. - FMT
