I M Muhyiddin S No 1 Supporter Hamzah Declares Amid Poison Pen Letter Claims
The Bersatu deputy president rejects rumours and pledges loyalty to his president as well as the party.
Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin told the delegates of his loyalty to party president Muhyiddin Yassin during his winding-up speech.SHAH ALAM: After a poison-pen letter circulated branding him the “enemy within,” Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has sought to reassure party members of his loyalty to party president Muhyiddin Yassin
In his winding-up speech at the party’s eighth annual general assembly, Hamzah dismissed claims that he had tried to undermine Muhyiddin and pledged his full support to the president.
“Enough is enough. I want to inform all of you, I am the number one supporter of the president today. Whatever is required of me, believe me, I am your man,” he said.
Hamzah, who is opposition leader, also urged delegates not to be swayed by rumours or attempts to drive a wedge between party leaders.
“Do not listen to those who are trying to incite. The problem today is that there are people who do not know anything, yet they incite. This is not our culture. Our culture is to uphold the dignity of the president,” he said.
Referring to the letter’s claim that he was “Si Ketol”, Hamzah said: “I want to tell you, Si Ketol is not someone in the party. It is someone outside.”
“Dear president, please believe me. We love (sayang) you. We love the party. If I am sacked, which other party can I go to? This is my last party. I will die with this party,” he said.
Hamzah added that his contributions to the party were made sincerely and without seeking recognition.
“I did it because I was sincere. I want to say I am not a traitor. I want to be a friend beside the president, as a younger brother to the president and a servant to the president,” he said.
The poison-pen letter accused Hamzah of fabricating claims that Muhyiddin promised him succession and sought to undermine the president, calling him the “enemy within” defying the party’s 2024 general assembly decision that reaffirmed Muhyiddin as president.
Hamzah also downplayed the commotion during Muhyiddin’s keynote speech last night, calling it minor and just exaggerated by the media.
The incident occurred after Muhyiddin revealed that some quarters were collecting signatures to oust him. While a small group heckled him and called for him to step down, the majority of delegates chanted “Hidup Tan Sri” in support of Muhyiddin. - FMT
