Heartbreaking Video Of Man Caring For His Ill Wife Highlights The Daily Struggles Of The B40

EVERYONE can have a bad day. But when we think life is tough, perhaps it is time to rethink our blessings and all the privileges we had taken for granted.
The recent tear-jerking story of a street food seller brings to light the hardship that some people go through on a daily basis. Most importantly, they wade through it with strength, courage and determination.
It was netizen @bckupacc99 who brought the video to light and it has since garnered quite a following on the cyberspace.
In the video, the man described how he had to carry his wife down from the flight of stairs since they lived on the fourth floor. His wife looked unresponsive, with a tube going into her nostril.
According to the man, she had diabetes and her leg had to be amputated. He was no different, being diabetic as well as suffering from stage five kidney cancer and high blood pressure.
Even though he was advised by the doctor to undergo dialysis, he couldn’t do it as there was no one to care for his wife.
“When she was healthy I loved her. When she was sick, I loved her more,” he said.
Away from the tears and sadness, members of the B40 community are prone to suffer from comorbidities, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and more.
In essence, they usually live on an unhealthy diet, not out of choice, but the fact that healthy food is usually expensive. Also, they do not have access to quality healthcare, instead, suffering in silence.
Among the initiatives developed by the government to tackle this problem was PeKa B40, an initiative by the government through the Ministry of Health Malaysia aimed at meeting the healthcare needs of the low-income group by focusing on non-communicable diseases.
But is it too little, too late? The predicament faced by the man and his wife is nothing new. There are other far worse cases out there, and we can only pray they get the assistance they deserve. — Focus Malaysia
