Harapan We Did Our Calculation Muhyiddin Misled Agong On Number Of Support
Pakatan Harapan has called for action to be taken against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, whom they alleged has misled the Yang di-Pertuan Agong over the number of MPs in support of his government.
This followed Muhyiddin's announcement yesterday claiming that he still has the majority support from MPs and thus his Perikatan Nasional (PN) government's legitimacy was purportedly not a question.
The opposition coalition also urged law enforcement agencies to not abuse their powers to pressure MPs who do not support PN into switching their allegiance.
"Together with our friends in the opposition and other (MPs) who do not support Muhyiddin, the Harapan leadership has done a meticulous calculation and found that Muhyiddin did not tell the truth and has misled the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during an audience with the monarch yesterday.
"This is the highest level of treachery against the head of our country, and shall not be forgiven," the Harapan presidential council said in a statement today.
The council comprises the presidents of Harapan components PKR, Amanah and DAP.
'Highest form of deceit'
Muhyiddin yesterday held a press conference where he said that he still commands the majority of support in Parliament, but promised to put it to a test with a vote of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat when it reconvenes next month.
He made the statement after Umno decided to withdraw its support for PN, and declared that the government had lost its legitimacy.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told a press conference that he has presented a number of letters from Umno MPs to the king, to prove that they have withdrawn support from PN, and showcased 11 including himself as among those who signed the letters.
Harapan said strong action must be taken against Muhyiddin for "the highest form of lie/deceit" he committed by speaking "the untruth and misleading the Agong".
On the vote of confidence, Harapan said that it could have been called earlier than September, stressing that the issue of government legitimacy must be addressed immediately.
"We also appeal to all civil servants, especially law enforcement bodies, to continue to act professionally, be neutral, and do not bow down to the political appetite of the government of the day to threaten or put pressure on MPs, especially when it comes to the issue of support for Muhyiddin," the opposition coalition added. - Mkini
