Harapan Wants Macc To Probe Alleged Attempt To Buy Its Mps
The Pakatan Harapan presidential council is calling on the MACC to investigate alleged attempts to buy over its MPs.
This was after several of the opposition coalition MPs received text messages offering them ministerial positions and cash if they switched sides.
"The MACC must take serious action as similar incidents have happened to opposition MPs before.
"If the MACC fails to act, then it only confirms claims that the MACC is a tool of the government intended as a political weapon for the political survival of certain quarters, not to uphold the law," it said in a statement.
The statement was jointly issued by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the opposition leader, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Yesterday, at least seven opposition MPs revealed they received messages which offered them incentives to change their allegiance.
This was amid the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government struggling to cobble together a majority ahead of September's Parliament sitting after a group of Umno MPs withdrew their support.
The Harapan leaders claimed the messages were an attempt to perpetuate Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's hold on power despite a lack of legitimacy.
"We stress that Muhyiddin must resign immediately or call a special Parliament sitting now for a vote of confidence in the near future.
"Do not wait until September to 'buy' support or other dishonourable tactics that are against the law," they said.
Yesterday, Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran lodged a police report over the messages.
Today, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong also lodged a report with the MACC over the offers made to him. - Mkini
