Harapan To Hold Meeting Amid Dissent Over Idris Quartet
The Pakatan Harapan presidential council is expected to hold a meeting this afternoon amid dissent over possible move to recruit former Malacca chief minister Idris Haron and three other incumbent state lawmakers into the opposition coalition.
The meeting will be held at 4.30pm at PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
Several Harapan leaders have confirmed the matter when contacted by Malaysiakini.
The upcoming Malacca state election will be the major issue to be discussed in the meeting.
It is believed that the meeting will also look into the issue of whether to accept the quartet to contest under the Harapan banner.
Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Tian Chua also confirmed to Malaysiakini that he will attend today's meeting.
Besides Idris, the quartet consists of incumbent state assemblypersons Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu).
Norhizam was previously with DAP and Noor Effandi was with Bersatu. Both were among those who defected from the Harapan state government last year.
Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin
Yesterday, PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin confirmed that the quartet had expressed their intention to contest under Harapan's ticket in the Nov 20 state election.
He also said it would be unfair if the quartet was not treated well.
However, DAP is already openly against Norhizam contesting under the Harapan banner, prompting Norhizam to say that the party cannot stop him from joining PKR or Amanah.
PKR's Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim also criticised Harapan's "opportunistic" approach in Malacca and the central leadership's failure to provide proper guidance.
Kedah PKR Youth chief Mohammed Firdaus Johari also said he would not agree to the four joining PKR. - Mkini
