Harapan Improves Bn S Programmes Not Merely Rebrands Minister
The Pakatan Harapan government makes improvements to BN's programmes and initiatives instead of merely rebranding them, said Khalid Abdul Samad today
"For example, the renaming of the Federal Territories Affordable Housing Project (Rumawip) to Residensi Wilayah
"It does not just involve a change of name but the units' floor area is also widened to 900 square meters from the previous 800 square meters," the Federal Territories minister told reporters after handing over Residensi Jalimas units to athletes in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur today
The Shah Alam MP was responding to criticisms from BN that the Harapan administration was merely recycling previous BN policies
Among others, Harapan has renamed the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) welfare assistance programme to "Bantuan Sara Hidup" (BSH) while rebranding the National Permata Programme (Permata), the brainchild of former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s wife Rosmah Mansor, to "Genius"
Rebrandings take place upon the request of the rakyat, and not on the whims of any political leader, said Khalid further
"For example, what recently happened in Kampung Kerinchi, it was not what Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai MP) wanted, but the people there thought the former name was more suitable for the area and we also have to remember Kuala Lumpur's history," said Khalid, in reference to the renaming of the place from Bangsar South back to Kampung Kerinchi
On another matter, Khalid stressed that he will not interfere in the duties of the Kuala Lumpur city mayor including in the matter involving traders at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, who have complained of duplication in the allocation of lots for the Ramadan bazaar (above)
"I am not a person who usurps others' roles, especially that of the mayor. Every local council has its own leader, and I leave it to them to do their respective jobs
"However, there are things that are discussed at the ministry-level and I will help set the policies and the ways they are to be implemented. At the end of the day, it is up to the local council leaders to do their jobs," he said. - Mkini
