Harapan Fell After My Sumpah Laknat Najib Says God Shows Who Is Right

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak does not rule out divine intervention in the way the Pakatan Harapan government collapsed
In a video by online portal Malaysia Gazette, the Pekan MP pointed to comments that said the collapse happened “66 days” after he took a “sumpah laknat” against those who slandered him over Altantuya Shaariibuu’s murder
A sumpah laknat is an oath beseeching God to curse those who are in the wrong
“I am unable to make a similar conclusion, but the last sentence of my oath was rather serious. I thought about it many times before I said it
“The sentence means that if I lied, I would ask God to curse me forever. And if others slandered me and as long as they did not apologise, I would ask them to be cursed by God. It was a heavy thing to say,” he said
Nevertheless, Najib said he read the sentence as part of his oath because he wanted to “uphold the truth” against the slander
“This was my last weapon. I asked God and God has shown. God will show who is right,” he added
Taken back in December 2019, the oath had been in response to an accusation by former police special action force (UTK) officer Azilah Hadri that Najib had ordered Altantuya's murder in 2006
In his statutory declaration (SD) from death row, Azilah alleged that Najib had convinced him that Altantuya was a foreign spy who posed a threat to national security
Harapan’s crueltyIn the heavily produced video, Najib also spoke about his “Malu apa Bossku” persona
The former prime minister attributed its popularity to how the rakyat “missed his era” and were upset over the Harapan government’s failure to fulfil its promises
“And they saw how Harapan treated me, with their cruelty and greed. So the people started to feel sympathetic towards me
“That’s why I was received in such an extraordinary manner. Even I was surprised. It (the reception) was even better than when I was the prime minister,” he exclaimed
Najib, who is on trial for the 1MDB scandal, criticised Harapan for the raids on his Langgak Duta home in May 2018
“I did not think that they would do something like this on the first night of Ramadan. As if there was no other time
“But the Harapan government was so revengeful so they did whatever they could,” he said
Following the raids on his home, apartments linked to him were also raided by police
He and several of his family members were later charged with multiple 1MDB-related charges - including for money laundering, abuse of power and criminal breach of trust. - Mkini
