Harapan Establishes Inter Party Committees

Pakatan Harapan has announced several committees featuring political leaders from its three remaining component parties in a bid to strengthen ties, on the third anniversary of the day it assumed federal power.
PKR, DAP and Amanah have agreed to name nine committees focusing on education, health, law, economy, security, gender, youth, cost of living and law.
"Today, three years ago, the world witnessed history being made when Malaysians voted to change the government democratically at the ballot box. Fear and trepidation turned into unforgettable joy.
"However, not even two years later, at the time of the first wave of the Covid-19 outbreak, traitors and opportunists teamed up to establish a 'back door government' through acts of sabotage and betrayal.
"Today, we see that the government is no longer able to lead the country and politically, this government remains an unstable minority government," said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, DAP's national organising secretary Anthony Loke and Amanah secretary-general Hatta Ramli in a joint statement today.
The education committee is to be headed by independent Simpang Renggam MP and former education minister Maszlee Malik, and included Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Teo Nie Ching, and Hasan Baharom.

The health committee is led by former health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, with Dr Lee Boon Chye, Dr Kelvin Yii, Hatta, Sim Tze Tzin and Ong Kian Ming as members. 
Aside from those two, the chairpersons of the other committees will be announced after their first meeting. Committee members can also be expanded to involve experts or any party deemed appropriate to the area of each committee's responsibility. New committees may also be announced.
The economic committee includes Dzulkefly, PKR's Subang MP Wong Chen and DAP's Damansara MP Tony Pua.
The security committee features Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Senator Liew Chin Tong and Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul.
PKR's Fuziah Salleh, DAP's Padang Lalang representative Chong Eng and Senator Aiman Athirah will be part of the gender committee. 
The youth one features the three party's youth leaders Akmal Nasir, Howard Lee and Shazni Munir, while the cost of living committee has Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim, Amanah's Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus and Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen.
The law committee consists of Hanipa Maidin, William Leong and Ramkarpal Singh, while the mobilisation group has Mohamad, Shamsul Iskandar and Steven Sim.

"The country's economy continues to be gloomy and lethargic with rising debt, loss of foreign investors and increasing unemployment figures.




"In terms of public health the government’s failure to address the Covid-19 pandemic is most noticeable if you look at the slowness of the vaccination programme and the conflicting movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs)," the statement said.
"Error after error by this government haunts us: outrageous compound fines with double standards, random SOPs, an unnecessary emergency which directly did not succeed in controlling the spread of the pandemic - in fact it got worse.
"May the victory on May 9, 2018, be the trigger for the spirit of change in Harapan to be prepared for any eventuality, including the 15th general election when the pandemic subsides," they added. - Mkini
