Hamzah Warns Of Legal Action Against Bersatu Blackout Logo

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin has warned of legal action against those who misuse the party’s logo
This includes the “Bersatu Blackout” logo used by party dissidents aligned with Dr Mahathir Mohamad to protest the termination of his membership and that of other leaders
He said in a statement today that the misuse of Bersatu’s logo was a crime punishable under Section 50(3) of the Societies Act 1966, which was punishable with up to three months’ imprisonment or a fine up to RM3,000
“In addition to that, Bersatu will take stern action against any party candidate or party member who misuses the Bersatu logo, including to void their candidacy and/or take disciplinary action including to sack the membership of those involved,” said Hamzah, who is also the minister with jurisdiction over the Societies Act
His announcement comes as Pakatan Harapan is set to step aside in the upcoming Slim by-election to give way for Mahathir’s faction to contest
Nomination day for the by-election will be held on Aug 15, while polling day falls on Aug 29
Earlier today, however, the Kuala Lumpur High Court struck out applications by Mahathir and four others’ challenging their termination from Bersatu
In light of this, Mahathir has announced that he has set up an “independent” Malay party which he said will uphold Bersatu’s original struggle
The party has yet to be named and does not have a logo, and is tentatively being referred to as “Bebas”. - Mkini
