Guan Eng Lauds Adib Award Wants Beng Hock Kin To Get The Same
Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng has lauded the government over its decision to pay RM1.5 million compensation to the family of deceased firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who died in 2018.
He said aside from finding those responsible, the government should pay a similar amount to the family of political aide Teoh Beng Hock and other custodial death victims.
"We urge the government to punish those responsible for the murders of Adib, Teoh and custodial deaths.
"In welcoming the government compensation of RM1.5 million to Adib’s family, a similar amount should be paid to Teoh’s family and the others," said Lim in his address as the secretary-general at the DAP's congress today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob told the Umno general assembly that the government paid an RM1.5 million ex-gratia compensation to Adib’s family on Nov 29 last year.

Adib died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018, after succumbing to injuries sustained while on duty during riots near the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor about a month prior.
In September 2020, coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled that Adib's death was a criminal act perpetrated by two or three unidentified assailants during the riot.
However, investigators have yet to be able to identify the alleged perpetrators.
On Oct 9, Ismail Sabri announced that an expert committee had been formed to look into Adib's death.
In the case of Teoh, he was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth-floor service corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, after being questioned overnight at the Selangor MACC headquarters on the 14th floor.
At the time of his death, Teoh had been a political aide to Selangor executive councillor and DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah.
In 2011, a Royal Commission of Inquiry determined that Teoh was driven to commit suicide following aggressive questioning by the MACC.
In 2014, the Court of Appeal unanimously ruled that his death was caused by the act of “person or persons unknown”, including the MACC officers who had questioned him overnight before he was found dead. - Mkini
