Guan Eng In Panic Regarding Cancellation Of Yayasan Albukhary Tax Exempt Status
Guan Eng denies cancelling the tax exemption status of the Albukhary Foundation but will not tell who did
(FMT) – Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng has called on Muhyiddin Yassin to stop fanning “unhealthy” sentiments in the run-up to the state elections following a claim that he had cancelled the tax exemption status of the Albukhary Foundation.
Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, said this sort of tactic must be stopped, otherwise it would be deployed all the way until the elections.
“(If you) want to campaign, please campaign based on facts. Don’t be like Donald Trump, who campaigns based on lies,” he told reporters before heading to the Dang Wangi police station to lodge a report against Muhyiddin today.
Lim said the Perikatan Nasional chairman should run a clean and positive campaign, “not one based on lies, hate and fear”.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim defended Lim, saying he did not cancel the tax exemption afforded to the Albukhary Foundation during his term as the finance minister, as alleged by Muhyiddin.
After Muhyiddin had made the claim, Lim threatened to sue the former prime minister for his “seditious” statement that implied a non-Muslim minister had revoked the tax-exempt status of a Muslim charitable organisation.
However, he said today “the damage is already done” as the people would believe Muhyiddin no matter how much explanation is given to debunk the accusation.
Lim said he has been made the “bogeyman” in this matter. “This is really not fair to me,” he said, adding that he was left with no choice but to lodge a police report against the Bersatu president as he had failed to substantiate his claim.
“It’s clear that Muhyiddin wants this matter to be played up so that he can fan ‘unhealthy’ sentiments,” he said.
“I leave it to the police to investigate this matter.”
Lim said he will also file a civil suit against Muhyiddin.
