Guan Eng Denies Breaching Home Quarantine
Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng refuted allegations of him breaching home quarantine on multiple occasions - namely to attend the Penang state assembly and to distribute food parcels.
“This is untrue,” Lim said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Lim’s corruption trial was postponed to Sept 22 as he was ordered to self-quarantine for 10 days from Sept 1 to 10 after coming into close contact with a Covid-19 patient.
That same day, Penang Gerakan Youth lodged a police report against Lim for allegedly violating home quarantine, as reported by The New Straits Times.
They questioned how Lim could attend the Penang state legislative assembly on Sept 2 when it was during his self-quarantine period.
Lim clarified in his statement that he was only informed of the self-quarantine after attending the state assembly on Sept 2 and subsequently tested negative.
“The Health Ministry officially issued on Sept 6 a home self-quarantine order from 1st to 10th September and required (me) to wear the pink wristband,” he said.
Meanwhile, Facebook posts made by Lim on September 2, 4 and 8 have also led to speculation that he breached quarantine to distribute food.
The posts did not state the dates of when the distribution was carried out
Lim claimed that the posts were made several days after the event.
“Lim had not gone out to the public to distribute food parcels after Sept 2.
“The Facebook posts of food parcel distribution done by Lim were done on several occasions on or before Aug 31 in his parliamentary constituency in Bagan,” read the statement.
He added that several DAP members, Phee Boon Poh, Soon Lip Chee and Sateesh Muniandy could attest to his claims. - Mkini
