In a Facebook post, Hajiji, the Sabah chief minister, said he appreciated the trust shown by the party leaders during a three-hour meeting today – a gathering held after Usno president Pandikar Amin Mulia highlighted concerns about how GRS is functioning.
Hajiji said the camaraderie displayed by the party heads today demonstrated their shared resolve to “stand united for Sabah’s political stability and development”.
“GRS will continue to move forward together with a strong spirit of consensus and unity to ensure that Sabah keeps advancing, united in diversity and steadfast in our struggle,” he added.
The meeting comes as GRS deputy chief Jeffrey Kitingan said on Monday that the coalition must improve the way it operates after Pandikar said Usno had been ignored by some GRS leaders after his party demanded seats to contest in the state polls.
In a statement, Kitingan, the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president, said each GRS component party – regardless of whether it currently holds seats in the state assembly – had the right to be treated with respect.
He also proposed that GRS’s Supreme Council host regular meetings to address Pandikar’s concerns.
Hajiji said that apart from Kitingan and Pandikar, today’s meeting was also attended by acting Parti Bersatu Sabah president Joachim Gunsalam, Sabah Progressive Party president Yong Teck Lee, Liberal Democratic Party president Chin Su Phin, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Liew Yun Fah and GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun.
Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), which Hajiji leads, is also part of GRS.
The current Sabah state assembly’s term ends in November, and the state election must be held within 60 days of its dissolution. - FMT
