Grs Doesn T Need Us We Wish Them Well Says Zahid
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the coalition is open to working with any other party in the Sabah election.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition wants to avoid multi-cornered contests in Sabah, particularly in constituencies where it has a strong chance of winning.PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today the coalition remains open to cooperating with other parties in the upcoming Sabah state election, except for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah
Zahid said that under the “BN-Pakatan Harapan plus” approach, the coalition was willing to work with other parties to avoid multi-cornered contests, particularly in constituencies where BN has a strong chance of winning.
However, he made it clear that this openness did not extend to GRS.
“GRS has already expressed confidence that it can win many seats on its own. So, they don’t need us. We wish them well,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Earlier this month, Zahid, who is the Umno president, said Sabah Umno had decided that it would not cooperate with GRS for the state election.
He said this followed a series of discussions among BN, PH and GRS.
PH has reached separate pacts with GRS and BN ahead of the polls, although the two coalitions have refused to work together despite PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim’s urging.
GRS and PH are allies in the Hajiji Noor state government, while BN sits in the opposition in the Sabah legislative assembly.
Sabah BN previously said that any form of cooperation with GRS would only be considered after the outcome of the state election, which must be held by January.
On Sunday, Hajiji said the Sabah legislative assembly would be dissolved before its term expires on Nov 11 to pave the way for an election.
He stopped short of saying whether the dissolution would be announced next month or in November. - FMT
