Growing Orchid Plants

Orchids, or, Latin term known as Orchidaceae, or, Orchideae, respectively, in the Botanical family of Asparagales, and, is native to wet tropics all over the World. Lots of folks, and I was one of them, think , or had thought, that Orchids are , were, hard to care for, that is, these being finicky, this, apparently, not the case, as these are in fact, low maintenance house Plants, as there are different types , species , of Orchids. Orchids, spp., thrive in Sunshine, though, indirect, as best locations for this/these would be either near North, or East facing windows. 
As far as watering goes, soak said Orchid in a bowl of water, once every 1–2 weeks, or, when moss on top surrounding Orchid is visibly dry, as do not keep Orchid evenly, consistently moist, as, this, being as the Plant/Plants are contained, in somewhat smaller pot(s), and, not out in the Tropics, in their natural habitats, could/would be open/susceptible to root rot. 
Orchids are non-woody perennial plants are generally terrestrial or epiphytic herbs, low maintenance to care and beautiful to look at.
Here are some suggesting caring tips for orchid :
Selection of growing site: South and east-facing windows work best for orchids. West windows can be too hot in the afternoon and north-facing ones are usually too dark. A sheer curtain will cast light shade. Too much direct light causes leaves to sunburn - so it may be necessary to re-position plants as the seasons change. Move plants away from or toward the window to manipulate the amount of light. Also, you can select the area where the fountain or water flow is available.
Potting Media: A fresh, fast-draining, but the water-retentive medium is essential to the healthy root system necessary for good growth.
Foliar application of NPK 20:10:10 @ 0.2% should be done at weekly intervals on the whole plant and potting media.
Use mist or overhead sprinkler to provide the water and to maintain humidity.
Orchid should have a 50-70% humidity level around them. You should spray the water on the whole plant and potting medium for maintaining the humidity.
After your orchid has finished blooming, use sharp scissors to cut off the flowering stem to promote regrowth.
Crowding of plants can lead to problems with insect infestations and fungus. Keep air to circulate around the plant.
Many orchids are very easy to grow at home; others not so much. Phalaenopsis orchids, so-called moth orchids, are very easy to grow at home. They are the orchids that you see in grocery stores and big box stores. They bloom for a long time, and when they are finished blooming, if you are patient, they will most likely bloom again, either in a year or sooner sometimes. There are other orchids that are relatively easy to grow at home and some that require a bit more expertise. Cymbidiums, which grow outside here in Southern California, can be very easy to grow depending on what your temperatures and rainfall are like. They can even be planted in soil, though I personally don’t recommend it. If you have a bent for plants (like I do) then you can grow all kinds of orchids at home. Because I live in a relatively warm, Mediterranean climate, I grow most of my 175 orchid plants outside in an enclosure that is open to the front but covered on both sides, the top and back. It is on the east side of the house so the plants don’t bake in the afternoon sun.
Two genera of orchids that are nearly impossible to grow under normal home conditions are the Masdevallias and Draculas. They’re native to high altitude cloud forests in the Andes and most require cooler temperatures than your average home. They also need very high humidity.
They’re interesting and beautiful. There are many exotic ones, but here are two examples from Google Images. There are many other equally beautiful ones.

According to orchid-care-tips.com:
“Humidity is very important for all pleurothallids, as most come from cloud forests in the Andes. Try for 70-100% humidity. Good air circulation (usually from a fan) will help prevent issues with rot.
Keep the daytime temperatures below 68°F (20C). They are cool growers!At night, temperatures should drop at least 10-15°F (6-8C). Pleurothallids care a great deal about leaf temperatures, so respect this. The plants also dehydrate quickly if temperatures are too high, as they cannot close their stomata to retain moisture.
Low lighting is adequate, similar to Phalaenopsis. 1000-1500 footcandles works well. The higher the lighting, the cooler the temperatures need to be and vice versa.”
They’re usually grown in cool greenhouses, but would be wonderful to be able to grow them at home. I tried but failed twice.


I think the most important part is the energy surrounding your orchid and how you treat it. I believe whatever you are, other consciousnesses around you will project that.


Orchids are relatively easy to grow and many times people tend to “over care” for them.

Water your orchid, once per week. You can use three ice cubes per week. Just set them on top of the mix and let them melt. The melting process will allow the orchid to take the water in slowly and absorb it properly rather than it running out of the bottom of the pot.


Orchids plants normally beautify a home and when it flowers it has a beauty of its own.
