Groups To Protest Against Trump S Malaysia Visit
A group of 23 NGOs have urged Putrajaya to cancel United States President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Malaysia for the Asean Summit 2025.
Urging like-minded Malaysians to join them in a protest march on Sept 6, the groups said they “vehemently oppose” Trump’s visit due to the US’ role in Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestine.
In a joint statement last night, the groups highlighted that Malaysia has taken a clear moral stance against the “humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza.
The groups, however, detailed a laundry list of Trump’s record and policies, asserting they demonstrate a “blatant disregard” for Palestinian life and a “direct complicity” in enabling violence imposed on Palestinians.
ADSAs such, they said that welcoming Trump to Malaysia is “not only inappropriate, but profoundly offensive”.

“Trump is unconditionally supporting the ongoing genocide by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza. To date, around 62,000 civilians have been killed, including almost 20,000 children.
“Money, military supplies, and diplomatic cover continue to be provided by Trump to fuel the genocide, including the forced starvation of millions of innocent Palestinian civilians,” they added.
‘An enabler of apartheid, violence’
They also referenced Trump’s “so-called ‘Peace Plan’,” stressing that the proposal envisioning the formal annexation of occupied Palestinian territories would legitimise illegal settlements.
Trump, they said, has cut vital funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees - known as a lifeline for millions of Palestinians - thus exacerbating a humanitarian crisis.
“Trump unilaterally recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved the US embassy there, undermining a final-status issue and violating international consensus.
“Trump brokered the Abraham Accords, which normalised relations between Israel and several Arab states without demanding an end to the occupation or the protection of Palestinian rights, effectively giving Israel a green light to continue its oppressive policies with impunity,” the groups added.
Claiming Trump is not at all a peacemaker, but “an enabler of apartheid and violence”, they said to host him would be a betrayal of Malaysia’s longstanding solidarity with Palestinians and a stain on its diplomatic integrity.
“There should be no red carpet (for Trump), no official welcome, and no platform for a figure whose political legacy is so deeply intertwined with the suffering of the Palestinian people,” they said.
Among the groups that endorsed the statement are Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Malaysia, the Palestine Centre of Excellence, Malaysian Women’s Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine, and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation.
Also in support of the call are the Centre for Human Rights Research & Advocacy, Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia, Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia, and Mandiri.
Previously, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Trump has given his undertaking to attend the Asean Summit here in October.
