Grab Says No Base Fare Reduction Riders Lower Income Due To Technical Glitch

Ahead of a planned 24-hour strike by food delivery riders, Grab Malaysia said a reduction in income faced by a "small group" of its delivery partners last month was due to a technical glitch which has been rectified.
This was contrary to claims by strike organisers that their planned "Food Delivery Blackout" stemmed from what they regarded as an unfair payment scale used by several companies, one of which being Grab Malaysia.
"Grab Malaysia would like to clarify that we did not reduce base fares for our delivery services," said the company in a statement to Malaysiakini tonight.
"The recent concern raised by a delivery partner was due to a glitch in our system where he noted a discrepancy in his earnings.
"We have since rectified the issue and have transferred the shortfall to all affected partners and clarified the matter via our official communication channel to our partners on July 21," said Grab Malaysia.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused for our partners and would like to encourage our partners to reach out to us via our Facebook or visit us at GDC should they have any further queries," it added.
A spokesperson for one of the protesting groups earlier told Malaysiakini that the main strike requires participating riders to switch off their delivery application for an entire day.
A notice calling for the protest sighted by Malaysiakini urged riders to gather at 10 rally points in the Klang Valley at 4pm before they start riding together to Petaling Jaya to submit a memorandum to Grab Malaysia at its office.
The company, in its statement, also reassured users, including consumers and merchant partners, of its commitment to support delivery partners - from social security protection to promotions aimed at increasing sales. - Mkini
