Gps Leader Warns Pkr To Stay Out Of Next Sarawak Polls

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has issued a stern warning to PKR, urging the party to avoid participating in the next Sarawak state election.
At a press conference today, Karim (above), who is also Sarawak youth, sports, and entrepreneur development minister, warned that PKR’s involvement could jeopardise the coalition’s stability under the government.
“Disrupting this current situation is unnecessary. Just leave it as it is. You do it that way. We will reciprocate that way also.
“Given our current unity government status, there is no point in challenging this balance,” New Straits Times quoted him as saying today.
After no party secured a clear majority in the 15th general election, Pakatan Harapan, BN, GPS, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah formed a coalition government and appointed PKR chief Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
ADSAlthough they are allies at the federal level, GPS controls the Sarawak administration while DAP sits on the opposition bench.
Elaborating, the Asajaya assemblyperson said such advice is necessary to maintain stability and cooperation within the coalition government rather than pursuing uncertain electoral gains in the state.
“At present, the Sarawak state assembly comprises 82 seats, with only two held by the opposition, both from DAP.
ADS“PKR holds no seats in the assembly, so it is best that it remains the same in future state elections,” he said.
In the last Sarawak state election, the GPS coalition clinched 76 out of 82 seats, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) scored four, and DAP won two. PKR lost all 28 contested seats.
PSB was dissolved in March this year and all its members were accepted into the Progressive Democratic Party, one of GPS’ coalition members. - Mkini
