Sarawak Pkr Leader Lambasts Gps Over Stay Out Of State Polls Warning
A PKR leader today chided Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for suggesting that the Reformasi party stay out of the next Sarawak state election.
Iswardy Morni, who is Sarawak PKR strategic director, reminded the state ruling party that it could be part of the current federal administration only because it was cooperating with Pakatan Harapan and other allies.
“If GPS really wants to cooperate and continue to be the (federal) government after the next general election, I suggest that GPS let go some of their seats for their friends from Harapan instead of telling PKR not to contest in Sarawak because we do not have any seats in the state.
“We must remember that GPS could not have been part of the federal government if they chose to stand alone and not accept assistance from the Harapan coalition, especially PKR,” Iswardy (above) said in a comment to Malaysiakini.
Iswardy was responding to GPS leader Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who earlier today issued a stern warning to PKR against taking part in the next state election.
Karim reportedly said that PKR’s involvement in the state polls could jeopardise the coalition’s stability under the federal government.
Iswardy also ticked off Karim and Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg for saying PKR is unfit to contest there as it was unable to secure any seat in the last state polls.
GPS leader Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah“If I were to make such funny remarks like Karim and Abang Jo, I would say that PKR at least has seats around the country, unlike certain parties that only dare to contest within their home ground.
“Then GPS would remain only as a ‘parti kampung’ (village party) that is scared to venture outside Sarawak’s borders and only dares to make noise from within its comfort zone,” he said.
Abang Johari reportedly told a podcast earlier this month that PKR and DAP “do not exist” in Sarawak due to GPS’ dominance in the state.
GPS to contest all seats
While claiming to be joking when making the remarks, the premier also announced that GPS would be contesting all seats in the next Sarawak election, saying it is up to the Harapan parties whether they want seat clashes to happen.
Sarawak premier Abang Johari OpengEarlier today, Karim reportedly told a press conference that there is no point for PKR to challenge the balance of the current unity government.
“Disrupting this current situation is unnecessary. Just leave it as it is. You do it that way. We will reciprocate that way also.
“Given our current unity government status, there is no point in challenging this balance,” New Straits Times quoted him as saying. - Mkini
