Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today urged the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent overcrowding from people lining-up for Covid-19 jabs at vaccination centres (PPV). -NSTP/HAIRUL ANUAR RAHIMKUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today urged the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent overcrowding from people lining-up for Covid-19 jabs at vaccination centres (PPV).
Ismail Sabri said he was shocked after seeing video clips that had gone viral on the social media, showing people, comprising foreign workers, overcrowding the PPV at Rumah Prihatin Grand Seasons Hotel PPV and Bukit Jalil PPV with poor standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance for physical distancing.
He said he would speak with the respective ministries as well as the police to ensure that the matter would be addressed immediately.
"I hope the authorities can ensure that the situation with overcrowding of foreign workers (lining-up to get their Covid-19 vaccination at PPV) will not happen again, since it can contribute to an outbreak.
"I will contact the respective ministries and the police to address this immediately," said Ismail Sabri in a posting that was shared on his official Facebook account.
Acting on the clip that went viral on the social media, the Dang Wangi district police headquarters have deployed an SOP compliance team to the scene to control the situation.
This was confirmed by Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya.
"The public who visited the PPV have been reminded to observe physical distancing and wear face masks as required under the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the National Security Council.
"In addition, the SOP Compliance team has managed to control the situation until the vaccination process for the day at the affected PPVs ended," he said in a statement.
The police, he said, also urged the cooperation of the people to continue complying with the SOP as issued by the council.
"The public with information of those defying the SOP can contact the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 03-26002222 or the Kuala Lumpur police's hotline at 03-21159999 or any nearest police stations," he said. - NST
